Ingleby Developers Take Note

Postby mattpark » Tue Jul 11, 2006 12:53 pm

Well,

Let’s start things off.

I've only been living in Ingleby for a couple of months now after moving in with my girlfriend. Nice little place in The Orchard, a Bryant development put in about two years ago.

In my short time here I’ve noticed one of the huge shortcomings of the area. There simply isn't enough leisure facilities to cope with the vast amount of people living here! In particular, things to keep the younger residents engaged and out of trouble.

A skate park, juniors club, community pool... things like this i feel would make a big difference to the area.

Developers are more than willing to squeeze an extra five of ten houses in to a plot, but just aren't adding in the extra facilities that should go hand in hand.

Food for thought.

Another rant about amenities!

As well as my idea about 'the ingleby barwick strip' i also agree with most barwickians about lack of child facilities.

matts ideas about skate parks, swimming pools and other safe hangouts for local kids needs to be addressed by stockton council! after all, we pay enough taxes!!! probably the most within the whole stockton area!

its just not good enough, there needs to be a local sports centre or something of the sort for children, to help promote healthier lifestyles and fitness.

Also......

after a discussion with my friend, Gillian, we agreed that ingleby could do with a nail bar and tanning salon! the number of residents that travel to thornaby and middlesbrough for these... services, would really appreciate a shop closer to home. And i hear some of you say, what about Bannatynes! well the sunbed prices are extortionate (excuse spelling again). however i do like the beauty salon, but a proper nail bar would be nice too.

ladies what do you think?

Hmmm... we are lacking in leisure facilities - nobody will argue with that (unless they are keen golfers in which case they'll be as happy as larry!) - so with the need to travel elsewhere... lets see if we can produce a list of "things to do" and where to go for them...

I'll start off, we make use of the following facilities/areas:

Swimming - Rainbow Lesiure Centre, Coulby. We tend to go early Sunday afternoons, 1pm ish - often get the pool to ourselves which is nice.

Park - Ropner Park, Stockton is very nice. Large childrens play area, cafe and duck pond. Strangely more enjoyable in the winter for some reason (less people I guess). Great for conkers :). Can be reached by bike - but going under the A66 can be tricky cometimes.

Also Preson Park is cool too - loads of space to kick a ball about, walk down by the river or make use of the cafe and play areas. Also easily reachable by push-bike (that's an amazing human powered 2 wheeled mode of transport for you petrol heads!).

Walking - River Tees - It's actually quite nice to have a walk down by the river near to Roundhill - kills a few hours and you can easily foget that IB is a few hundred metres away.

Walking again... there's a walk we call "the hilton" walk... park near to "The Falcon" pub (is that right?) - and walk along the bridleway opposite the pub alongside the new houeses. Follow it down into the woods alongside the river leven - you eventaully end up walking along the valley under the A19 flyover between the A174 and Crathorn junctions. It's a great walk, but can be a bit muddy.

I think that'll do for now... anyone want to add more?
