Indeed Tesco have renamed some "Tesco Extra"., see site referred above. I'll bet they'll not rename "ours". It would draw too much attention their monopoly. SBC councillors have been aware of this situation since 2006. Perhaps they should sell "our" One Stops to Co- op. Co-op could then sell their good shop at High Leven to Waitrose. Then we'd get some decent nosh & the wines recommended by Jane McWhitty.

Compare a Tesco store and a One Stop store, and a Sainsburys store and an Ex-Bells store - On going into a Sainsburys Local it is obvious that it is Sainsburys - the name, the fittings, the staff uniform, the goods.  On going into a One Stop store theres absolutly nothing that says its owned by Tesco - its clear why they don't change them to Tesco Express stores is that they don't want people to know that they have taken over and have a monopoly and it stops the competition commission noticing that fact.

I wonder if our MP, Daryl Taylor,  knows and more importantly even cares.

Councillors, MEPs and/or MPs are all career politicians and will only get involved if it helps their next election – the days when we had politicians who did what was right because it was right (or appropriate) and not because it was popular or the vogue thing to be doing are long gone.

As to the insight that One Stop and Tesco are one and the same – I never knew that thanks, but I can’t say I'm surprised as Tesco didn’t become Britain’s biggest (and high street/local shopping destroying) retailer for nothing.  And yes I shop at Tesco, but it always leaves me with a fowl taste in my mouth for reasons I won’t waffle on about…

Well I think we all should spread the word and let all of Ingleby know that Tesco own One Stop too, so they live in a Tesco town!

I understood that Tesco's application in the summer of 2009 for an extension to the store was to be considered by SBC Planning Committee in October/November 2009. Objections made included endangering local shops, specifically the pharmacies and the DIY shop, and increasing trafic congestion, particularly at the roundabouts near Tesco. I do not read anywhere that the application has been approved. Has anyone any news ?

Spoke on 18 Jan 2010 to "Duty Officer" at SBC Planning Dept.
"Application (for extension) refused at Planning Committee 14 Oct 2009".
I wonder what will happen now ?
Will Tesco appeal ?
Should they appeal ?
Will Tesco submit another application ?
What do you think ?

Tesco extension application was not heard last October but I understand will be considered this wednesday coming-24/02/10.

Tesco's application to extend the store on Ingleby Barwick was approved by SBC PlanningCommittee on 24 Feb 09. See Evening Gazette article for, a little, more information.
